Damien Oliver is confident that Seabrook will give him a double in the Golden Slipper. Seabrook remains the favorite horse in the Golden Slipper. She has moved from $15 to about $8.50 and joined Forensics on Oliver’s honor roll. Oliver has won three Melbourne Cups, two Cox Plates, four Caulfield Cups and a Golden Slipper. If Seabrook manages to deliver a win in the next Saturdays Golden Slipper, it will make Oliver the only Jockey in Australia to have won each of the Australian racing twice. However, According to Oliver, winning any of the races is difficult and so he is not worried about the record but preparing well for the race. He said that one needs a good horse when going for a Slipper and believes that Seabrook who finished fourth during the Cox Plate day has what it takes to win the race. The filly has performed well in the past and justifies being included in the Golden Slipper contest.
Oliver has spent a lot of time with the horse and he is happy with the way she adjusted to the autumn. The jockey said that he was impressed by the way the filly has progressed to the spring from the autumn. He further pointed out that he was confident that she would do well in the Blue Diamond but she did not have the luck. She was beaten by Enbihaar to the third spot. After the race, she had to stay in Sydney to take part in Sweet Embrace Stakes which was held on March 3. In the Australian Guineas day, Oliver rode his group 1 winner even though his focus was on the Golden Slipper.
So, when Oliver returns to the saddle this Saturday, the things he is wary of are the barriers and luck. Being able to jump the barrier and getting the right run was important. Seabrook can charge home if she jumps the barriers. According to TAB’s, Seabrook is one of the horses the punters have marked and she has been the most popular horse since Monday. It should be noted that despite the weekends wins by Written By and Sunlight, she still commands a lot of confidence and has a huge following in Sydney.
In the meantime, it is important to note that the horses that will take part in Golden Slipper have undergone checks and have all been cleared. The checks were conducted on Wednesday and have set the ball rolling.
