What Chris Wailer Thinks About Winx

Winx, the world champion mare has completed the 2017 season and emerged from a series of travel inoculations stronger. She dominated the autumn, won the springs and has brought racing into the public domain. 2017 has been her second unbeaten year. She has so far won 22 races; she won the Apollo stakes that drew about 6000 punters, won the Randwick and won the Cox Plate for the third time to match Kingston Town. Most of her wins were spectacular and were delivered in style.

In the George Ryder Stakes, Winx registered the most impressive a 7¼-length beating strong contenders Le Romain a group 1 winner and Chautauqua who later won the Tj Smith. According to William Buick, the horse reminds him of Frankel.

During the spring, the horse worked hard to win races albeit small margins. The horse showed her quality and proved that she could perform well on hard tracks. She demonstrated that she could take on any opponents and frustrate them. Perhaps the only race that she almost lost was the Cox Plate where Humidor posed a strong challenge, but Winx managed to put her head down and won the race.

Winx association with Hugh Bowman is perhaps one of the things that may have made her a super mare. Bowman won 16 group one races in Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, where he was crowned the best Jockey.  He won six group ones on Winx and several other races such as Warwick Stakes where she won the race by a half a dozen lengths. She also won Chelmsford Stakes and brought about a lot of excitement on the track. Bowman is patient, aggressive and the horsemanship that has equaled him to best jockeys Australia has produced.  Bowman spent some time in Japan, where he won the Japan Cup.

Concerning the future of the mare, the trainer Chris Waller said that there had been a lot of rumors and he suspects that people are reading too much into the new injections at his stable. He confirmed that the injection was meant to keep his options open. He added that Winx had come through the inoculations with no injuries or side effect and that he was confident that she would kick off her autumn campaign in Appolo Stakes at Randwick. Waller said that he was currently focusing on fitness and he has designed a regular fitness regimen.
